Neil and Buzz

Sitting at the Air and Space Museum with the group of teachers. We are discussing whether the first man on the moon was from Ohio or New Jersey. It seems to me that the first men were from Ohio and New Jersey. Neal Armstrong is from Ohio and Buzz Aldrin is from New Jersey. To me this is the perfect mix. Armstrong was the great test pilot while Aldrin was the math genius. Together they made history and a long lasting rivalry.

Breathtaking

Gettysburg was amazing I had so much funn and it was so breathtaking...the view from devils den was so scarey but very inspirational.on top of on little round top the view was very interesting and also breathtaking.Shoping was fun I got to get a tie die pink shirt with Gettysburg written on it.  All I know is that I was so interested in everything that we did and that I am so glad that I was able to go on this experience wth all of my friends and just to be able to be out here is the greatest thing that has happened to me.

So Close

> . I thought Gettysburg was really fun. The first and third day battlefields were smaller than I thought. The other thing is that I didn't think so many buildings would be so close to the battlefields. Right now it's 10 pm and the group is talking about the battles and important people in the Civil War. I can't wait to get to D.C.

Can't Wait

Gettysburg was amazing! It made me really think about all the women and men that lost their lives. I also thought Devils den and Little Round Top were breath taking. A lot of people complainedd about walking all the way to the top of the hill. It really was worth it to take the sights all in. I really can't wait to go to D.C. tomorrow. Can't wait!

Smaller than I thought

I thought Gettysburg was really fun. The first and third day
battlefields were smaller than I thought. The other thing is that I
didn't think so many buildings would be so close to the battlefields.

The Best Part

Today we went to Gettysburg and toured the battle site. I, personally, found the best part to be looking over Devil's Den from Little Round Top. It was a very unique experience, one I may never experience again. After that, we visited the Gettysburg National Cemetery to do shadings of the Ohio soldiers. We then walked around the historic Gettysburg, going through various gift stores and other shops.

Justin Lester,

Different

Today at Gettysburg we went around and toured different battle sites. I learned that the places there were a lot different then I thought they would be. I also learned that cannons can shoot a lot farther then I thought. The cannons could also be used as a weapon to scare soldiers.

Cannon Balls

At Gettysburg today I learned that general cannon balls weighed about 12 pounds and that they were accurate for more than 200 yards. They shot canisters out of the cannon when they were about 10 yards away. I learned that there were 5 people who worked each cannon.

A Great Experience

Today at Gettysburg I got to see some things that the soldiers and generals saw. I got to see some cool things. One of my favorite things to see was the spot Gen. Lee watched Pickett's charge. I also got to touch the cannons shot, and be on the battlefield. It was a great experience , that I will not forget.

Understnding better

Today at Gettysburg I learned a lot of new things. I had already heard a lot of things at school, but being there helped me to understand the battle much better. One of the things that I understood more was the fight at Little Round Top. Seeing how steep it really was helped me to understand how important the high ground really is. Another thing was Pickett's Charge. Then tour guide explained many important things about it. It was a very educating experience.

Ohio regiment

Today at Gettysburg, I learned a lot about things I didn't know. When we were at Cemetery Hill, there was a memorial for the fourth brigade of Ohio. The Ohioans were called in to help defend the hill when the South broke through the Union defense. I didn't know that Ohio had a special part in helping defend Cemetery Hill. I was also surprised at how many unknown soldiers there were in the Gettysburg National Cemetery. I feel sorry for the families that kept on waiting for their children to come home.

Stonewall Jackson

Stone wall Jackson wasn't in the battle of Gettysburg I think the outcome would have been different. The reason I say that is because he would have forced his men as fast as they could have gone. If he would have been in the battle, he would have probably gotten though the line and would have had a huge impact on the battle of Gettysburg. If he would been there he could have won the battle.

Jenny Wade

We went to Gettysburg today.   We had a nice tour guide named Paul.  The first thing he told us is that Lee told the Confederate soldiers that they should be nice to the civilians and to pay for as much supplies as they could.  Our tour guide told us that Jenny Wade was the only civilian that was killed in the battle of Gettysburg.  A bullet went through two doors and entered her back.  Jenny's corsett trapped the bullet.  We also got to go to Little Round Top.  There were a lot of monuments dedicated to the states regements.   We got to see Ohio's momunment that was located on Cemetery Ridge.  We had a lot of fun.

Loving Day One

I loved Gettysburg. It was great to see everything. I heard all the stories, but just being there was awesome. We walked on the battle field today and there were so many hills I don't know how they did it. I do know one thing - these men were truly amazing. I loved it all!

More Casualties Than I Thought

I learned that there was a lot more casualties than I thought at the battle of Gettysburg. I also learned that it would be really hard to climb Devils Den because the rocks are huge and steep. It seemed impossible to climb up the hill to get to the Round Tops while people are shooting at you.

My Great Day

My day was great. The bus ride was super fun because we partied on it and talk. At Gettysburg we learned a lot of things such as how to work a cannon and we got to see all of the sites of the battle. Also we saw a lot of momuments of the Ohio regiments. There was also this tall tower that we walked up and seen all of the terrain of Getysburg.

Made it Through Day One

So -- we made it through today having just a great time. The weather was beautiful. The best part is what a great job the students did here in Gettysburg. They knew many facts about the battle of Gettysburg and had a great understanding about the battle. The guides are always impressed! Everyone is tired. Tomorrow is a big day with lots of walking. Off to bed!!!

Bus Tour

Today we traveled to Gettysburg. when we got there the first thing we did was go on a bus tour. it was 3 hours long and extremely hot with a lot of walking. We learned a lot about Little Round Top and the Battle at Gettysburg. it was interesting and fun except for it being really hot.

Distances

I went to Gettysburg and thought it was cool. The that surprised me the most about the battlefield is the distance the soldiers travled just to get to one side. A cannon can shoot over three miles, but they were not deadly at that distance. They are more deadly up front. I saw old buildings with bullet holes in them. You could see a plaque on every civil war battle.

Our Adventure Day 1

Well in day one of our adventure, we went on a tour in Gettysburg (our guide was named Paul) and participated  in demonstrations that he prepared for us. We toured at Little Round Top, Devil's Den, Pickit's Charge, and National Cemeteries. We also learned about the civilians in Gettysburg and how just a few of them help during the war. My person I kept track  of was Beauford and he was on horseback army (Calvary) that was in Gettysburg to hold off the battlefield for the Union from the Confederacy. On day one Beauford's army went into battle and most of his men were wounded/killed. I bet Beauford was very torn up about seeing this.

Women at Gettysburg

Today we went to Gettysburg and I learned about the women there. There were many women who helped out in the civil war including Elizebeth Thorn. She was 6 months pregnant and she dug 91 graves for the men. There were also other women who helped nurse the wounded soldiers back to their original health, but they didn't get any credit for their work.

Favorite Part of the Day

I learned a lot today at Gettysburg. My favorite part was the National Cemetery. It was very sad but it finally let me realize how many. people actually died. Before I didn't really realize how many people had died. It was really sad

The Battlefield

Today was a fun day at Gettysburg. i learned kots of things. there were so many monuments around the battle field. They had a statue for every state that participated at Gettysburg. The guide explained the 3 days of the battle very well. He told me things I didnt even know about. when you saw the battle field i thought of all those bodies, horses and wounded all over the ground and dead. It was a scary thought to think about. The battle field seemed so much bigger then I thought. i hope tomorrow is as good.

Women in the War

Today at Gettysburg I learned about many women that were involved in the Civil War that were not given very much credit. One woman in particular was Elizabeth Thorn, she was the wife of one of the gate keepers. She was 6 months pregnant and she dug 91 graves, all by her self! That is pretty impressive! Another part of today that I liked was the rubbings on the graves stones. I did a rubbing on Balts Beverly.

Hannah

Cannon Balls

This trip tought me a lot about the Civil War. I learned that cannons can shoot out solid balls and also cannon balls with explosives in them. It takes 5 people to operate the cannons, each having an important job. If one person messes up it can cost there lives. I also found out that there were many people from Ohio that fought in the war. People from Wooster, Wayne County, and Stark County. I am really enjoying the trip, and i hope it will get even better.

On Little Round Top

Today in Gettysburg was a thrill of a life time. we had a great tour guy and it took 3 hour for the tour. we saw the battle feild were tons and tons of man die for what they thought was right. We also saw pickies charge and what the south did to the the north to try and over come them. Also Little Round Top was a great spot to be at both the top and not at the bottom. We also went to Gettyburg cemetery to take rubbinhs of some of the ohio soldiers that died at Gettyburg. The grave stone that I rubbed was william Orr. i had fun and i cant wait until tommrow.
